Modern Needlepoint

A 4000 year-old design - reproduced into needlepoint.

This design is first noted within the Phrygian and Uratu empires - yet the step-form cross is a perennial - and definitely works within the modern - stark decorations of today.

Modern Needlepoint - the evolution of a centuries-old art into modern times.

The finishing ideas for this small needlepoint design are seen within.

Needlepoint has been in existence for thousands of years - dating back to the Egyptians. Read more about the History of Needlepoint below :

A hobby for many - an art form for others - a profession and an industry - all surround the word Needlepoint.

Relaxing at times - as well as absorbing - this art medium attracts many - to pull away from the modern tendencies of hi-tech - quick satisfactions - that often only create a certain blindness of the senses.

People are "re-discovering" the enjoyment of the meaning of slow.

Yes - the term "slow" is becoming as lost as the term - morality - these days.

Needlepoint is a slow process - involving a great deal of introspection - planning and amazing delight - when viewing the results - which very slowly appear after many hours - weeks - months and longer of dedication.

Attention to minute detail is accentuated - awareness of color - blending and light are taken to heights - and - quickly - your world moves into a new dimension - your senses become enhanced again.

You have lost that anxiety from the modern day need-for-speed -- to realize the beauty and results of patience.

Suddenly - an enriched vocabulary swirls in your mind. Words are now used to describe a renovated intense discovery of colors - the good old dark red - becomes a refined - "deep burgundy".

A myriad of names - - eggplant - describes another color -- maize - paprika - terra cotta ... you begin to cringed when hearing "pink" - - no - you think - it is more of a slightly burnt damask rose ... a new refined syntax emerges beyond the numbness from the Pantone - RGB and CMYK limits.

Needlepoint - a Great Hobby

Often it is said that needlepoint is a lost art - which is partially true today as people tend to spend their free time surfing the net - along with so many other hi-tech activities.

However - recently - this tendency has turned - and many are looking for a substitute - away from technology overdoses.

Thus - the needlepoint revival.

A leisure time activity which promotes meditation and relaxation.

Very addictive - needlework can vary from simple plug along projects to the very refined interpretations of designs with a variety of different textural stitches and a mixture of different fibers.

Needlepoint has evolved into the 21st century this way. Never before has needlework been considered an art form.

Today - the designers are constantly amazed at what the stitching artists are creating with their designs - a mixture of dynamics that is increasingly exciting.

Fashion designers are incorporating needlepoint into their shows. Above - Balmain Fall Collection - fabulous ...
